One of the biggest efficiency threatening mechanisms in marine transportation is the resulting effect of (bio-)fouling growth on hull surfaces.

There is a dramatic effect on drag, fuel consumption, cost and CO2 emissions as a direct result.

From the many fouling preventing methods, most of them only work temporarily, are heavily toxic to the environment or need to be reapplied frequently.

The other solution, regular removing and collecting of the fouling material now is done with subsea diving teams and is very labor intensive, dangerous and expensive.

The few automated solutions for subsea hull cleaning presently available, are large, expensive and complex solutions.
The robotic subsea solutions available often are only provided as a service

In the last couple of years VertiDrive did a lot of trials and testing on flexible compact and in the end also autonomous ways of cleaning subsea hull surfaces.

The Vertidrive focus on a subsea cleaning solution, as currently under development and as demanded for by many of our customers, is to have a compact autonomous subsea carrier solution capable to handle / operate a closed-loop subsea cleaning process (as e.g. currently used by diving teams).

Also, in relation to new fouling surface release mechanism, we are working with best-in-class partners offering more effective and efficient fouling release processes. To be integrated with autonomous VertiDrive robotic crawling and automation action.
